I still hope at least one of the testers has the guts to tell them frankly if the game is not fun to him. Which is actually not his job, which is testing.

Actually it should be his job to provide feedback on improving the game, so I disagree with you. Even specs and documents can have bugs that can be uncovered through reviewing them.
On the hand, dont expect to change the entire game design when it is already in a late stage of development and about to be shipped in a few months. The closer they get to shipping the higher would be the bug bar so that only ship stopper bugs get fixed, very close to shipping, so as to reduce code churn.

For everyone that thinks this job would be fun, try this.
1) Exit Ascalon City in post-sear and go to the devourers at the top of the hill.
2) Use skill 1.
3) Did you find a bug? If yes, attempt to duplicate the bug. Fill out a report detailing the effects and cause of the bug. If no, move on to skill 2. Repeat for all skills in your build.
4) Rezone into Ascalon and change your build.
5) Repeat steps 1-4 for the entire day, or until you have tested every skill. Whichever comes first.
6) After testing every singular skill, begin testing every skill combination.
That is the life of a tester.

A smart tester would have automated any "tedious" task, let machines handle it, come back in the morning, with the test results ready with updated charts on his website.

The position advertised isn't like beta testing, you don't get to do it at home, and it's far from what most people would consider playing the game.
This level of testing is done at the developer's studios, usually starting around 6pm when all the dev team have left for the day. The testers will come in and run their procedures on the latest build, over and over and over, basically trying to break the game, looking for mistakes in the code.
This stage of testing is also usually done with an incomplete graphics engine, so it looks more like This .

It's true. The QA Team tries to break the game -- tries to find all the bugs -- so they can be fixed. The best QA Testers are extremely detail-oriented and extremely methodical, even obsessive in some ways. This is not a job for people who dislike repetition.
Our QA Team is incredibly important, and testing is a key step before releasing anything. For example, our QA Team has been busy testing everything to do with the upcoming April content update. Anything that gets released, even web pages sometimes, will get a QA pass. Now, some bugs may escape here and there -- we're all human, and we have limited staff and time -- but our QA Team is very good at what they do.

which do you think is more impressive on a prospective software engineer's resume:
1) worked at mcdonalds
2) worked as QA tester for NCsoft West
being a QA tester is valuable experience, especially since i plan on going into the software industry. granted, this isn't the only job i'm looking into, and i'm capable of quite a bit more than a QA tester. however, this job is already much better than most of the other ones available for a student with virtually no job experience.

To be honest, I hate repetitions. I have never worked in the game industries but I have experiences in both development and test roles for some products that have shipped.
If I have to repeat something many times, I would rather automate it. Grinding kills brain cells associated with creativity and innovation and is an activity better left to machines. Which is why robots are replacing humans in many factories.

Kind of sad that some games look like that upon release and many years into it.

QA is a pretty broad term, it doesn't state anywhere that he'll be working on GW2. Hardly proof of anything if you ask me.
